ACT India Foundation implements Tailoring, Design Development, and Sustainable Livelihood Programmes to empower adolescent girls, young women, and home-based women workers with market-driven skills, entrepreneurship opportunities, and pathways to economic independence. The programme combines technical tailoring competencies with design innovation, financial literacy, digital marketing, and business development to create sustainable and resilient livelihoods.
The initiative adopts a forward and backward linkage approach by connecting women with raw material suppliers, cotton and textile value chains, designers, training institutions, producer groups, local markets, e-commerce opportunities, and garment manufacturing enterprises. Special emphasis is placed on strengthening home-based garment production, women-led micro-enterprises, and collective business models that enable women to earn stable incomes within their communities.
The programme integrates financial literacy by equipping women with practical skills in household budgeting, savings, banking, digital payments, bookkeeping, pricing, and enterprise management. Women are also trained in digital marketing, social media promotion, online sales platforms, customer engagement, and brand development to help them expand their market reach and build sustainable businesses.
Circular economy principles are embedded throughout the programme by promoting fabric upcycling, reuse of cotton and textile waste, sustainable product design, and environmentally responsible production practices that reduce waste while creating additional income opportunities.
Over the past five years, more than 500 women have successfully graduated from the programme, gaining employable skills, entrepreneurial confidence, and access to diverse livelihood pathways within the textile and garment ecosystem. Through continuous mentoring, market linkages, enterprise support, and digital empowerment, ACT India Foundation is building a resilient, women-led ecosystem that advances inclusive economic growth and sustainable development across rural Tamil Nadu.
