ACT India Foundation implements a comprehensive Adolescent Girls Welfare and Empowerment Programme across 60 rural villages in Athoor, Vedasandur, and Vadamadurai Blocks of Dindigul District. The programme primarily supports adolescent girls from vulnerable families, including those of garment and textile mill workers, agricultural labourers, construction workers, and other economically disadvantaged communities.
The initiative adopts a holistic approach to improving the health, safety, education, and overall well-being of adolescent girls by equipping them with knowledge, life skills, and opportunities to become confident and informed young leaders. The programme addresses critical issues such as the eradication of child marriage, protection under the POCSO Act, menstrual health and hygiene, sexual and reproductive health, mental well-being, nutrition, gender equality, and personal safety.
Recognising the growing influence of technology in young people's lives, the programme also promotes digital literacy, cyber safety, responsible use of social media, and awareness of online risks. Life skills education, communication skills, leadership development, career guidance, financial literacy, and AI-enabled learning opportunities are integrated to prepare girls for future educational and employment pathways.
The programme actively engages parents, schools, local institutions, women’s groups, and community leaders to create supportive environments that encourage girls to continue their education and delay early marriage. Through adolescent girls’ clubs, peer support groups, awareness campaigns, counselling, and community mobilisation, ACT India Foundation is building safe, inclusive, and resilient communities where girls can thrive with dignity and confidence.
